Saw palmetto extract works to prevent testosterone from converting into dihydrotestosterone, the hormone thought to cause prostate cells to multiply, leading to an enlarged prostate. Saw palmetto berries contains fatty acids and sterols, which are the active ingredients and it is this part of the plant that reduces the inflammation of the prostate gland. Palmitol contains a liposterolic saw palmetto extract (standardized to 85%-95% fatty acids) with added zinc and vitamin B6. Zinc is important in maintaining a healthy prostate and Vitamin B6 is required for its absorption by the body.
